Learning Fun! Books About: Attention Deficit Autism Dyslexia home schooling Learning Disabilities IEPs L. A. Kids Home Page |
Learning Abled Kids was founded by Sandy Cook, whose qualifications include the following:
Sandy's children collectively have severe dyslexia, dysgraphia, executive function deficits, and ADHD. After battling the public school system for five years, and filing a successful due process lawsuit, the school's program still failed to provide any meaningful academic progress for her child. As her child's self-esteem plummeted and depression developed, Sandy decided to attempt home schooling her children. She has found the experience rewarding, and more successful than she ever imagined. Sandy was able to bring her child with severe dyslexia from a 1.9 grade reading level to a college level within two and a half years of beginning home schooling. Each child is above grade-level in every subject except spelling. Sandy's oldest child tested into Duke University's TIP program for gifted students after being homeschooled for only three years, and her younger child qualified for the Stanford University Educational Program for Gifted Youth. Sandy has found many teachers, who simply haven't been taught the reality of learning disabilities, treat children with learning disabilities as if they can't learn. In fact, children with specific learning disabilities are often exceptionally bright in many ways. Parents often see the spark of brilliance, but are unsure of how to light the fire. It is important to light the fire of learning. The difference between a focus on ABility and a DISability, is nothing short of amazing and can be the needed spark for change. Belief in a child's abilities and strengths can dramatically change the life of a child. Learning Abled Kids was born out of a desire to see all kids with learning disabilities shine as the brightest lights they can be. Sandy seeks to provide information and tools to help parents circumvent their child's disabilities and to help them set their child on a road to educational success. Through targeted teaching and special programs, children with Learning Disabilities can expand their Learning Abilities and soar beyond anyone's wildest expectations! Please join Learning Abled Kids, and get the help you need in locating resources which will help your child become the academic success YOU know he can be! *
